Metallica.

I went for a dose of retail therapy yesterday (not that I needed it) and bought a metallic skirt from Zara which inspired me to write today’s post. Who doesn’t like a bit of glitz and glam once in a while, especially when it comes to your wedding day? Usually associated with New Year’s celebrations or sci-fi movies, the metallic is back. It’s no longer seen as tacky (unless you go OTT) and can actually add a bit of class to a very special day. Swap your virginal white frock for a glittery number or foilstamp your invitations to give your guests a glimpse of what’s to come. Have fun, you sparkly chick!

Succulent Away.

Many of you might cringe at the thought of using plants as your wedding flower because you’ve been dying to have peonies or hydrangeas in your bouquet. Yes they might evoke more of a dreamy and romantic vibe but who’s to say plants aren’t pretty in their own right? C’mon, what about embracing your eco-chic and go for a low maintenance and hardy choice such as the water-retaining succulent? It’s rustic and are more masculine than the traditional flowers yet equally charming and are as cute as ever when placed in small cups or pots to give to guests as a wedding favour. You might even get a snarl or two when you tell the florist but ignore them. Stick to your guns and give it a try.

You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine.

Are you suffering from the Monday blues? Here’s a burst of sunshine to help you get through the first day of the week. The craspedia, aka billy balls and billy buttons or what HK florists say, fish balls. Rarely seen or used in Hong Kong weddings, they’re the perfect flowers to brighten any wedding. A cute pop of yellow, they look like little balloons flying in the sky when used as a table centrepiece or remind you of a giant pom pom when bunched together. They may not be the trend du jour but who said they go out of date? Craspedias are so durable, they can last up to one month and if you can’t get enough of these adorable round balls, have them made out of felt so you can keep them for as long as you like. Most importantly, they’ll make you want to smile.

p.s. If you didn’t know already, they’ve become my favourite flower. Check out my wedding flowers from last year!

Here Comes the Bunting.

It’s the final day of the Diamond Jubilee fever and patriotism is abound, from the Union Jack flags to the Thames procession, you must say it’s a pretty spectacular event. Despite the grey weather, it seems that the people of England are having a jolly good time. Ok, the Pimms and the extra long weekend may have played a part but every photo you see are of people enjoying themselves in one big street party. Have you noticed that there’s bunting everywhere? Even Staunton Street in Hong Kong has bunting decoration, albeit on a significantly smaller scale. Incorporate it into your wedding, and you’ll sure have a fun and colourful event. Instantly uplifting, it’ll also be wallet friendly as it’s completely DIY-able. Go on, let the festivities begin.

Send your guests a glimpse of the fun to come.

DIY Cupcake Bouquet

Hello my lovely readers. I know I mentioned in my last post that I’ll be posting a step-by-step guide to creating your own Map of Vows. I have not forgotten and I promise to post it as soon as it’s ready (something just came up that requires my attention! Sorry!). For now, here’s another DIY tutorial, courtesy of 52 Kitchen Adventures that I think will be great as a table decor. The cupcake bouquet will save you having to come up with a separate centre-piece idea and what’s best is that you can eat it too. If you’re trying a hand at making this yourself, please let me know how it goes! I’d love to hear about it.

Fun in the Sun: Mint Green + Yellow Wedding.

As summer is fast approaching (or judging from this oppressive heat and humidity, it has arrived already), I wanted to share with you one of my favourite colour palette that’s ideal for a wedding on a gorgeous summer’s day. The light and airiness of mint green (sometimes known as seafoam) combined with splashes of sunny yellow will make any wedding fresh and cheerful. Although pale palettes can err on the side of a kid’s party, this combo yells fun. Give it a try.

p.s. I’ve just had my nails painted in mint green. Love.

Whimsical Candy Cake.

Sorry brides for having neglected you the past week. I was consumed with all things rugby and charitable so had little time to do anything, let alone write any posts. You now have my undivided attention. Who’s up for some candy coated cake? Ah….childhood memories.

Crazy for Chevron.

On this gloomy day, I have decided to jump on the chevron stripes bandwagon and bring to you this funky pattern. It was a hit last year and no doubt, it will continue to climb up the wedding prints ladder. It’s already started to make a presence in my home, beginning with the couch throw. How about you? Why not incorporate this modern take on stripes to your big day? No one said this print is only used for the gas station.

Zig-zag love. Customise and print your own for free @ Wedding Chicks.

Stripes In Your Eyes.

Don’t you just love the stripes on zebras? So classy and sexy yet giving off a fun vibe. You too can bring effortless chic to your wedding day by incorporating the stripe-y print: blue and white for a nautical theme, black and white for understated elegance or experiment with bright colours to reflect your playfulness. Don’t go overboard though or your guests will be seeing stripes in their eyes.

Oh hello, I’d like one of those. Red stripe beer I mean.
