Sparkle Everyday: CARAT* Bridal Room.

We all know that girls (or at least most of them) like their bling but who can fork out tens of thousands of bucks on jewellery that they can only wear every so often? In comes CARAT*, the London jewellers that will make you feel like a princess and may even become your new best-friend. All the sparkly jewels that you see are made from hand cut synthetic gem stones and to the untrained eye, looks as good as the natural stones but at a fraction of the price. When I visited the shop last month, I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between my natural diamond ring and the CARAT* solitaire version (I hope my hubby doesn’t read this). And because the prices are so darn reasonable, you won’t need to lock it up in the safe and only wear it on your wedding day. You can even be the gracious bride and treat your bridesmaids to a sparkly gift and not feel like it’s costed you an arm or a leg. To top it off, if you visit the newly opened Bridal Room in Harbour City, you can even bring your wedding outfits in and match CARAT*’s array of jewels with your gowns. Now, there’s no more wondering whether you’ll look picture perfect on your big day.

Victoria’s Secret’s New Bridal Line.

I officially have Miranda Kerr envy. Who doesn’t? She’s got those dimples, the piercing blue eyes, the body AND married to Orlando Bloom. And now, as if she hasn’t made most of us jealous enough, she’s gone onto model Victoria’s Secret’s new bridal line campaign. It’s a collection of lace-y treats that’ll make your hubby wish he’d married you earlier. Perhaps don’t show him the below photos.

Ring Pillows With a Twist.

To some, the idea of ring pillows is just another formality they have to tick off the list (and would rather do without) but for those who believe in sticking by the wedding custom, there are so many offbeat alternatives to the traditional white ring cushion. The custom is primarily a symbolic one; the wedding ring representing the commitment between two people and of utmost importance. Depending on the theme and style of your wedding, you can turn items we may use everyday into a ring pillow. Vintage wedding? How about a teacup ring pillow? A book-lover? Carve out a shape inside the book (make sure to glue all the pages together!). And if you are still keen on using the traditional cushion, jazz it up by using different patterned fabrics or even a map to show the location of your wedding. Not only can you use them for the ceremony but they make for great photo props and cute additions to your newlywed home.

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Rings.

Happy Monday! How many times have you flipped through a magazine or walked past a billboard that advertises the all important engagement ring and all you hear from brides is how many carats their diamond ring is? What about the wedding band that symbolises the union between husband and wife? Don’t put that on the back burner and leave it to the lastminute. Today, we have Kate Rivera from Wedding Rings Direct, the UK manufacturer and online retailer of wedding and engagement rings, to provide you with some tips on choosing the perfect rings.

“A wedding ring is a metal band worn to indicate the wearer is married and represents never ending love. These will be the first gift you give to each other as husband and wife. The rings will be worn by both of you for the rest of your lives; therefore it is essential you choose rings you both love. Deciding on your wedding rings may seem like a fairly simple task; however with so much choice out there, finding those perfect rings can soon turn into a daunting task.

So, where do you begin?

Firstly, decide on the material you would like your rings made from. Popular metals include gold, silver, white gold, platinum and titanium, and with some of these metals being stronger than others, it is best to choose a ring that will match your lifestyle. It can be a good idea for the bride to pick a ring made from the same metal to her engagement ring as some metals can corrode others. You can also have rings made of more than one metal and it is important to consider the style of your engagement ring as some may require a shaped wedding ring for the rings to fit nicely together.

Wedding Ring Shapes & Designs

Wedding rings are available in a vast array of different profiles; such as D-shape, court, flat court, flat halo and double comfort. On top of that, there are also many styles such as decorative, diamond set rings and Celtic rings.

Plain vs. Diamond

Most people decide on plain wedding rings; however there are also some beautiful diamond set ones available. You can choose to have just one diamond set on your ring or several, as well as choosing different diamond sizes and shapes to choose from, including round, princess, cushion, oval and pear.

Now that you have chosen your perfect wedding rings, why not add that special touch with a personal message engraved onto your rings to remember your big day?”

Wedding Rings Direct is a manufacturer and retailer of wedding and engagement rings in the UK, offering an online ‘Build Your Own’ bespoke service.

Dreamy Headpieces: Jannie Baltzer 2013 Collection.

The 1920s fever is growing by the day, not only because of the Downton effect or old Hollywood but it’s also one of the few eras that truly oozes glam. If you’re looking to relive those days whilst keeping your style young and fresh with soft dreamy colours, Jannie Baltzer’s headpieces from her 2013 collection may be the answer. Taking inspiration from the 1920s and 1930s, the Danish designer uses hand made flowers as well as hand crafted pearls and crystals to create a unique headpiece that will complement your wedding outfit and make you look nothing less than perfection. Prefer a headpiece that’s one of a kind? Jannie also does custom pieces for brides and will have it shipped to you wherever you are in the world. If only I’d known when I got married.

If You Like It, Put a Ring On It!

This one’s for the men and for a selected group of  ladies who are non-traditionalists. Those at SimplyBridal, have shared with us a flow chart on how to figure out your other half’s ring size without them finding out before the proposal. Awww you romantic. In my case, the hubster went through great lengths digging around my bedroom and coincidentally, the one ring I owned was sent to , a Hong Kong accessories boutique for a custom hand-made ring. Instead of trying other methods, he courageously took a guess, using his pinky circumference as the sample. And to prove our compatibility, he got the ring size right. First try. So, for you folks looking at finding out the ring size, there’s no right or wrong strategy. Follow this flow chart and see what works for you and if all fails, go with your gut.
